AGE CONCERNS
Through a combination of image and text, Age Concerns shows snapshots of lives. The pictures, combined with snippets from conversations show people remembering, reminiscing, joking and pontificating. A story of northern folk shown on Mancunian streets - with the swagger of a Gallagher and touches of Lemn Sissay pathos. Less an exhibition about ageing, it’s a collection of stories about people who just happen to be of a similar age. That’s the Mancunian Way.
Foreshortening
Breathing is often outside the face,
just out of reach of the mouth;
like gaze which is, itself, memory,
like a shadow which falls across
a darkened doorway. And those
fingers, with their large gold rings,
flicking on a brass cigarette lighter,
they, too, are just beyond reach.
Continuation is both waiting
and surprise, as if standing to see
both beermats and moorland heather
in the wall mirror of the pub.
A smile opens over teeth polished
by sixty years of gnawing meat.
